Tom Smith -- drums

Drummer Tom Smith, a 21st century addition to the Cobalt Rhythm Kings, is a Connecticut yankee who did his New Orleans rock'n'roll studies loafing on a Coca Cola cooler in the back of Tipitina's, digging Professor Longhair, The Meters, Earl King, Irma Thomas, The Neville Brothers & other greats, and playing a few gigs on Bourbon Street.
Now back in the Nutmeg State, Tom has juggled gigs with a ridiculously long list of bands, including The Hickups, The Bandidos, Dr. Ya Ya's Gumbo Party, Memphis Soul Spectacular, Mercy Meadows, Eugene Chrysler & the Hillbilly Shakespeares, and whoever else will feed him.
He is a Justice of the Peace, which means that if you've got a valid marriage license and slip him fifty bucks, he'll marry you. If you're not on your best behavior, he might also write about you, for Tom is the author of The Crescent City Lynchings: The Murder of Chief Hennessy, the New Orleans "Mafia" Trials, and the Parish Prison Mob.
An admirer of the collected works of Earl Palmer, Vernel Fournier, Smokey Johnson, Charles "Hungry" Williams, and Kirsty MacColl, Tom aspires to be urbane when he grows up.
